St Laurence Parish
St.
Laurence is an Anglican congregation that feels called to create an
intentional community seeking to practice a renewed Christian spirituality
in order to deepen members’ experience of God and share this path with
others as a response to the growing hunger for meaning and hope in the
surrounding community and society.
St. Laurence is located in the community of Lakeview in South West Calgary and
is easily accessible via Glenmore and Crowchild Trails.
St. Laurence is a medium-sized parish serving families of all ages. It was
established in the mid 1960s; some of the founding members are still active in
parish life and have now been joined by their children and grandchildren.
Sunday morning worship is a Eucharist according to the rites in the
Book of Alternative Services. Services
commence at 10:00 AM year-round. From September to May there is a church
school program for children and a youth group for teens during the worship
time. We also provide a supervised
nursery for younger children all year long.
The last Sunday of the month at 5:00 pm there is a quiet and beautiful
Contemplative Prayer service.
Members of the St. Laurence concentrate their efforts in five main areas of
ministry and mission: Worship and Music, Education (children and adults),
Spiritual Practice (centering prayer, lectio divina, gratitude), Works of Mercy
and Justice (compassion and outreach), and Community Life (nurture and pastoral
care, fellowship and membership, new member assimilation). There are a variety
of other groups and committees active in the church, including adult Christian
education groups, a men’s group, a craft group, a women’s group and an excellent
choir, all of which provide opportunities to develop one’s Christian life in
relationship and fellowship with others.
We welcome everyone in worship and fellowship. Join us at St. Laurence anytime! |
